Halloween is coming (yay!) and Mattel delighted us with a new version of their Dia de Muertos Barbie for the 2021 Halloween season. For those of you who collect the occasional dark dollie, or have goth grandbabies to send spooky (and highly expensive) gifts to, here is a look at this year’s darkest Barbie dolls.

The 2021 Dia de Muertos Barbie sports a colorful sugar skull and flower themed tiered skirt and matching blouse. She wears a marigold flower and skull crown, and colorful bracelets. She’s a collector doll, meant to be displayed and not played with (but it’s your life and your money!)
I just noticed the beautiful skeleton detailing on Barbie’s neck! This doll is so intricate! I am truly impressed.
This year, Barbie has a boyfriend to attend Dia de Muertos events! Here’s the 2021 Dia de Muertos Ken Barbie doll (via Amazon; affiliate link).
Ken wears a black shirt and pants, a heavily decorated traditional Mexican sombrero, a beautiful embroidered serape (scarf), brown boots, and a brown belt with sugar skull belt buckle. His face is decorated with sugar skulls in the Calaveras fashion.
Ken’s face features silver and white Calaveras face paint. He has golden hazel eyes and dark hair.
