“Zone One” is getting incredibly good reviews. I never tire of post-apocalyptic novels, and I have room in my life for another good zombie tale or two. This comes highly recommended by Justin Cronin, author of the post-apocalyptic vampire novel “The Passage” novel I enjoyed so much this fall.
Damned, by Chuck Palahniuk
Damned is narrated by a 13 year old girl named Madison, who dies after being abandoned by her parents at a fancy Swiss boarding school. She then goes to hell, and embarks on an infernal quest to confront Satan.
It’s a Chuck Palahniuk book, so of course you won’t be bored reading it.
I never personally get tired of Pride & Prejudice retellings, mashups or imaginings. Here, Mr. Darcy is clearly quite too affected by the full moon. Quite refreshingly, in this romance, he’s found to be not a vampire, but a werewolf.
The President’s Vampire
The President’s Vampire is a sequel, so it might not be quite so enjoyable if you haven’t read Blood Oath. It’s a great quick suspenseful read. The “war on terror” is reimagined as “the war on horror.”
Sleeping Beauty: Vampire Slayer is written for teens, and features a choose-your-own-adventure method to select your preferred ending. The feisty heroine fights evil, though you might find yourself rooting for the vampires.
