Here are my most anticipated new dark children’s book releases coming out for Summer 2015!
“Seven Orange Pumpkins” is a counting-themed board book for little babies. I’d use it any time of the year, not just in autumn. The illustrations include pumpkins, a scarecrow, a witch and a spider.
The artwork in 5 Very Little Pumpkins (a baby board book coming out soon) is a bit too cutesy for me. Still, it might be a nice way to sneakily introduce an unwitting mundane relative’s new baby to the slightly darker side of children’s books.

I have a baby niece who really enjoys interacting with Lift the Flap books. So I’m tempted to get her Spooky House when it comes out in August.
Here’s another lift-the-flap book that looks fun: Ghost in the House.
In this “Halloween Baby Face” book, you’re supposed to print out and insert a photo of your own baby to use with the costumes in the book.
Who wouldn’t want to see cute chubby baby hands playing with this “Little Monster” Frankenstein’s monster-themed board book?
“Scaredy Cat”, by the same author, comes out long before Halloween.
Spooky, Spooky Little Bat will be available after July 15.
Children aged 2-5 years will most likely enjoy finding out what happens when the little witch Delia uses magic to change the weather, in It’s Raining Bats & Frogs. Plus – bats!
“Boo-La-La Witch Spa” is coming out later this summer, in August. After Halloween, the witches pamper themselves at the Fa-Boo Spa with Bat-Whisker Tea, and Broom Bristle Facials. It’s meant for ages 3-5 years.
Peanut Butter & Brains is “a zombie culinary tale” for kids aged 4-8 years.
I’m hesitating, not having seen the inside, about “Mom! The Monsters!” Given the subject matter, it may indeed be a bit too scary for small children.
Written for 5-8 year olds, “Seen and Not Heard” is about naughty children at Shiverhawk Hall who simply refuse to stay inside their gilded portrait frames.. Peek inside the book at this review post and also here and at Picture Book Party.
For younger pre-teens, “The Monster Diaries” features a sneak peek into the real, everyday lives of The Mummy, The Werewolf, the Vampire, among others.
